OK, do both computers have the same login and password settings? XP will not share resources unless the remote user has the appropriate privileges on the local system and They can see each other but they just wont allow access to files, printers, etc. I have looked and looked but I cant see what I am missing.

Will try it with simple again and see how it goes - in fact I will remove all shares etc, rename the two PCs and start again, slowly. Pro can see the Laptop but is denied access to the Shared Docs folder. Home can find the Pro box to install a printer but can't see the shared printer that is there.

Every time I open the 'view workgroup computers' on my xp box I can see the 'Samba Server' but when I click on it it says I do not have permission to access. I have tried using both the 'security = user' and the 'security = share' options. With the user option I get the error immediately, no prompt for user/pass.
