Sharing Files on Network.
But in a inch you can map your XP shares via IP addr in the Windows gui to at least see them. This still falls very short of actually "working" I still can't access the Vista machine from XP though. (think people who block all incomming connection can be voted as master for the workgroup). Im not sure why but it doesnt work without a stable master browser. to act as a domain master browser for all computers.. If I set the browseable = false flag I cant see the share myself(i can access it but not see it).

workgroup share problem
I can also view and edit files, and I can view file permissions I can also use the windows "Computer Management" tool to view the shares, .... but I get an authentication prompt every time I try to connect to samba from a windows client, and no matter what I enter I can't authenticate to see the shares.

Specify the shared disk or folder this form: \\computer\share 3. Client Connection problems
The host computer has some folders shared which I expected to see in My Network Places but the window does not have the host computer in it. I thought I had solved the problem in that, the way to access the shares, according to the KB article is through the Run box (rather than My Network Places).

Same XP network problem
You say that you can see OLD2 from MAINCOMPUTER, but can't access it. How about MAINCOMPUTER from OLD2 - what symptoms there? running both Client for Microsoft Networks, and File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks (Local Area Connection - Properties), on each computer? Do you have shares setup on each?
